In the past, court clerks manually identified and notified law enforcement agencies, a process that could take several days across the county’s 88 police jurisdictions. Now, with this automated system, notifications are sent within minutes to the appropriate departments. This advancement dramatically reduces response times and allows officers to act quickly when someone is legally required to relinquish their firearms.
Developed through a $4.12 million grant from the Judicial Council of California, this initiative was created in partnership with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), District Attorney’s Office, and City Attorney’s Office. The platform provides a centralized portal where law enforcement can easily access all firearm relinquishment cases within their jurisdiction — promoting transparency, coordination, and rapid enforcement.
